How to Prepare Physical Chemistry for JEE

Weightage & importance

Chemistry carries 100 marks in JEE Main (25 questions). Physical Chemistry (~35%), Organic Chemistry (~35%), and Inorganic Chemistry (~30%) are roughly balanced. NCERT is the primary source for Inorganic and much of Organic.

Step-by-step study plan

1. Step 1

   NCERT first

   Read NCERT for each unit before jumping to reference books. Highlight exceptions and trends.

2. Step 2

   Physical numericals

   Daily 10–15 Physical Chemistry problems: mole concept, equilibrium, electrochemistry.

3. Step 3

   Organic reaction maps

   Create reaction flowcharts for functional group interconversions. Test with MCQs.

4. Step 4

   Inorganic revision

   Use tables for periodic properties, p-block facts, and coordination compound rules.

5. Step 5

   Mixed practice

   Solve topic-wise MCQs on Goodmarks, then mixed Chemistry sets in timed conditions.

• Physical: Mole concept, equilibrium, electrochemistry, and kinetics are numerical-heavy
• Organic: GOC, hydrocarbons, and carbonyl compounds are foundation for all reactions
