Step-by-step solution

Let marked price be M. Initial VAT rate = r%. Selling price = M + r% of M = M(1 + r/100). After increase, rate = (r+2)%, new SP = M(1 + (r+2)/100). Increase = M(1 + (r+2)/100) - M(1 + r/100) = (2/100)M = M/50 = 140. Hence M = 140 × 50 = 7000.
